Mr. Troy Everette Strickland of Halifax, VA passed away unexpectedly at Emerald Isle, NC on Wednesday, July 25 as he heroically lost his life while trying to save a twelve-year-old girl who survived. He was born in Halifax County on February 15, 1977 and was 41 years old. He was the son of the late Everette Thomas “Tommy” Strickland and Darlene Martin Strickland and was married to Jessica Faison Strickland. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and was an extremely popular coach in both boy’s baseball and girls’ softball. He was currently the manager of the Halifax Heat 14U girls’ softball team and coach for the Dixie Boys Brewers team. He was an investigator with the Halifax County Public Defender’s Office Survivors include: His wife Jessica F. Greg Smith and Rev. Vance Midgett officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Baptist Church, Scottsburg. The family ask that all of his players, both current and former wear their team uniforms or Duke Attire. The family will receive friends at Grace Baptist Church on Saturday evening from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM and other times at the home of his mother, 4040 Bethel Road, Halifax.
