Dorothy Mae Powell Cassada

Mrs. Dorothy Mae Powell Cassada of South Boston, VA passed away on Friday, March 9, 2018 at Commonwealth Assisted Living.  She was born in Halifax County on December 5, 1922 and was 95 years old. She was the daughter of the late Mel Lacy Powell and the late Martha Nolen Powell and was married to the late Charles Dudley “CD” Cassada.  She was a member of First Baptist Church, was retired from the VA State Department of Vocational Rehabilitation after 37 years of clerical service. After retirement, she was a volunteer at the South Boston/Halifax County Museum.  Survivors include: Her sister Audrey Pittard of Halifax One nephew Tom Pittard and wife Mary of Halifax One great nephew John Pittard of Halifax ***Preceded in death by one daughter, Ellen Cassada Johnson A funeral will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Bob Balance officiating.  Burial will follow at Halifax Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Sunday for one hour prior to the service.
