Mrs. Jenny Osborne Wilkins of South Boston, VA passed away on Monday, February 26, 2018 at her home. She was born in Halifax County on January 31, 1928 and was 90 years old. She was the daughter of the late Raleigh Edward Osborne and the late Bessie Willis Osborne and was married to the late Edward Byerley “Buck” Wilkins. She was a member, former Deacon and Elder at First Presbyterian Church. Jenny, known as “The Fair Lady” in South Boston and surrounding communities, assisted her husband in running the Halifax County Fair for over sixty years. At his death in 2004, she took over the management of the fair until the county purchased the fairgrounds property in 2007. She also aided Buck in the management of the South Boston Speedway and with his Architectural business. She was active with the Virginia Association of Fairs where she served as Vice-president and from whom she received the ‘Fair Person of the Year” award in 2008. She was a proud member of the Berrymen Green Chapter of the DAR. Survivors include: Two daughters Paige W. Powell and husband Les of South Boston Sue W. Bales and husband C.J. of South Boston One son Edward Bruce Wilkins of Corolla, NC Six grandchildren Kelly G. Payne and husband Daniel of Paces Leslie W. Powell IV and wife Kelly of South Boston Raleigh W. Powell of South Boston Jack Watkins and wife Jessi of Cluster Springs Edward Buck Watkins of South Boston Abbey Bales and friend Trip Womack of South Boston Seven great grandchildren Aidan O’Kelly, Luke O’Kelly, Noah O’Kelly, Madison Watkins, Chandler Watkins, Laylo Ridgeway, and Sunny Rain Watkins She was also preceded in death by sisters, Catherine O. Walker, Nancy Lou Eastwood, and brother Col. Edward Wilson Osborne A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Russell Lee officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 7-8:30 PM and other times at her home.
