Rosa Owen Powell

Mrs. Rosa Owen Powell of South Boston, VA passed away Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the Roman Eagle Rehab and Healthcare Center.  She was born April 23, 1929 in Halifax County, VA and was 88 years old.  She was the daughter of the late John Thomas Owen and the late Jenny Canada Owen and was married to the late Joseph McCarter Powell.   She was a member of the Centerville Baptist Church where she was one of the original founders and served as Treasurer for many years.  She retired from Burlington Industries.   Mrs. Rosa Owen Powell is survived by: One Son Barry Carter Powell and wife Ashley of Danville, VA One Granddaughter Lauren Nicole Daniel of South Boston Four Step-Grandsons Casey Waller, Bobby Waller, Caleb Shelton and Caiden Shelton   ***Preceded in death by*** One daughter, Pamela Powell Cumbie Three sisters, Jeanette Ligon, Mabel Hudson and Ruby O. Watts Seven brothers, Herbert, Billy, Frank, John, Clyde, Earl and Pat Owen   Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at the Centerville Baptist Church with the Rev. Todd McClure and the Rev. Dan Ward officiating.  Burial will follow in the Halifax Memorial Gardens.   The family will receive friends Monday, December 4, 2017 from 7:00 until 8:30 P.M. at Powell Funeral Home and other times at the home of her son, 5009 Ridgewood Dr., Danville, VA 24540.   For memorials please consider the Halifax County Cancer Association, P.O.
