Virginia Santaford Throckmorton

Virginia Lacks Moorefield Throckmorton departed this life on Monday, August 7, 2017 at the home of her son Elijah Daniel Moorefield at the age of 87. She was the daughter of the late Leander Benjamin Lacks and the late Lula Williams Lacks. She was preceded in death by her first husband Elijah Daniel Moorefield and her second husband Hewill H. Throckmorton. She was a member of Scottsburg Baptist Church. Virginia retired from Daystrom Furniture in 1991 after 29 years of continuous and dedicated service. Virginia was among the first employees in the Production Control Department after the plant opened in 1962. After her retirement, she enjoyed spending as much time as possible outdoors working in her flower garden. She is survived by: One sonElijah Daniel Moorefield and his wife Shirley of Nathalie, VA One DaughterNancy Estes and her husband Skip of Trinity, FL One StepdaughterPhyllis Hudson and her husband Donnie of Scottsburg, VA One SisterLucille Fisher and husband Luke of Nathalie, VA  Grandchildren and great grandchildren:Mike Moorefield, Thomas Moorefield, Ginny Giles, Laura Beale Stratton, Nanette Meeler, Matthew Hudson, Derrick Hudson, Christina Hudson, Melanie Perkins, Dr. Teah Bayless, Keith Martin, Michael Beale, Makenzie Beale, Halle Stephens, Kaylea Stephens, Savannah Giles, Harper Giles, Blake Harden, Paige Bayless, Madison Bayless, Jon Bayless, Joshua Perkins, Willow Perkins, Brianna Martin, Aric Martin, Alex Martin, Alyssa Kirby, Nolan Pounds, Nicholas Hudson, Nathan Hudson and Brianna Hudson. She was preceded by her siblings Lee Lacks, James Lacks, Otis Lacks and Frances Rice. Her memory will be cherished by her many friends and neighbors.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Shelton Miles officiating. Burial will follow at Alton Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Powell Funeral Home and other times at the home of Dan and Shirley Moorefield, 21064 L.P.
