Mr. Ralph Weldon Lowery of South Boston, VA passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital after a period of declining health. He was born in Halifax County on June 3, 1939 and was 78 years old. He was the son of the late Evie Lowery and Annie Cole Lowery and was married to Nancy Snead Lowery who survives. Ralph retired as regional director of the USDA Tobacco Division in Raleigh, NC and was the first employee in the region to receive the Division Director Award. Survivors include: His wife Nancy Snead Lowery of South Boston One daughter Kim Lowery Slayton and husband George of Chester One son David Lowery of South Boston Two brothers Aubrey Lowery of Virgilina Emmett Lowery of Chester He was preceded in death by four sisters, Virginia Martin, Nell Bowen, Thelma Best, and Hilda Lowery and by six brothers, Otis Lowery, Chester Lowery, Floyd Lowery, Paige Lowery, Gus Lowery, and Lindy Lowery. A Memorial Service for Ralph Weldon Lowery will be held on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Vance Midgett officiating.
