Mr. Earl Thomas Martin, Sr. of Nathalie, VA passed away Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Sentara Woodview Nursing Home. He was born April 26, 1920 in Halifax County, VA and was 97 years old. He was the son of the late Henry Spencer Martin and the late Sally Ambrose Martin and was married to Lelia Arthur “Peggy” Martin for 75 years, who survives. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Millstone where he was a former Deacon and a U.S. Army Air Force Veteran of World War II where he served in Italy. He was also a member of the Hubbard Masonic Lodge #312 where he was the past Master and a member of French Masonic Lodge, a member of the Halifax Royal Arch Chapter #38 He was a member of the VFW Post #8243, Halifax. He was a founding member of the North Halifax Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Earl Thomas Martin, Sr. is survived by: His Wife Lelia Arthur “Peggy” Martin of Nathalie Two Daughters Beverly Weiss of Nathalie Pamela Griffin and husband Clarence of Clinton, NC One Son Earl Thomas Martin Jr. and wife Janet of Stephens City, VA Two Grandchildren Debbie Freeman and husband David of Ashburn, VA Mandy Thompson and husband Christopher of Stephens City, VA Four great grandchildren Ryan and Brooke Freeman of Ashburn, VA Canaan and Jordan Thompson of Stephens City, VA Many Nieces and Nephews He was preceded in death by three sisters, Louise Thompson, Annie Roark, and Archer Collins. Five brothers, Roy Martin, Frank Martin, Hagood Martin, Macon Martin, Harold Martin and a son-in-law, Terry Weiss. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Millstone with the Rev. Kris Cook officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors and masonic rites. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 7-8:30 PM and other times at the home of Beverly Weiss, 5015 Chestnut Road, Nathalie.
