James Michael Perkins

Mr. James Michael Perkins of South Boston, VA passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital.  He was born in Halifax County on April 16, 1982 and was 35 years old.  He was the son of James Wesley Perkins and Berniece Crews Perkins. He was a member of Gravel Hill Baptist Church, Piney Creek Hunting Club, and was a big baseball player and fan. Survivors include: Two sons Shane Christopher Hatcher of South Boston Shaun Michael Perkins of South Boston One daughter Cadence Alani Powell of South Boston His mother Berniece Crews Perkins of South Boston His father James Wesley Perkins of Chatham One brother John Wesley Perkins of South Boston His paternal grandmother Kathleen Womack Perkins of Halifax He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Wesley Morrell “Shorty” Perkins, and his maternal grandparents, Harrell Crews and Ruth Morris Crews A funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 14, 2017 at 3:00 PM at South Boston Church of God with Rev. T. Wayne Daniels officiating. Burial will follow at Halifax Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home Saturday evening from 7-8:30 PM and other times at the home of his mother, 1100 Third Street, South Boston. Those wishing to give memorials are asked to please help the family with his medical bills and final expenses.
