Claiborne Wayne Weatherford

Mr. Claiborne Wayne Weatherford of Halifax, VA passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital.  He was born in Halifax County December 3, 1933.  Wayne was 83 years old at the time of his passing.  He was the son of the late William Thomas Weatherford, Jr. and Louise Owen Weatherford. Wayne is survived by his wife Betty Beale Weatherford.  He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church where he was a past treasurer and Sunday School Superintendent. Wayne was involved in many civic responsibilities including Fire Chief with Halifax Volunteer Fire Department and Worshipful Master with the Halifax Masonic Lodge.  Being an US Air Force Veteran, he was an avid aviator and flight instructor and also flew for the US Forestry Service.   He was founder of Power Equipment Center Inc. in Halifax. Survivors include: His wife Betty Beale Weatherford of Halifax Two sons Guy Thomas “Buck” Weatherford and wife Brenda of South Boston Wayne Owen “Skeeter” Weatherford and wife Kelly of Halifax Five Grandchildren Leigh Ann House (Ashton) of Richmond, Caitlin Weatherford of South Boston, Sarah Daniels (Jason) of South Boston, Meghan Weatherford of Halifax, and Eleanor Grace Weatherford of Halifax. Four great grandchildren Emma House, Luke House, Olivia Daniels, and Weston Villarreal He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda W. DeJarnette and his sister, Bettie W. Smith. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Brown and Rev. Clark Crowder conducting the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Monday evening from 7-8:30 PM and other times at his home at 1050 Springwood Drive, Halifax, VA.
