Doris Vicks Chappell

Doris Vicks Chappell went to be with her Lord on Friday, November 25, 2016 and to join in Heaven her loving husband of 56 years, Wesley Long Chappell. She was a loving Mother to Wendy C. Daniel (Tommy), Kelly D. Chappell (Patricia), and a devoted Grandmother to Catherine D. Birr (Chris), T.J. Daniel, Lance Chappell, and Logan Chappell. She is also survived by a sister, Mary V. Smith (Robert) and three brothers, Edward Vicks, Willard Vicks (Angeline), and Danny Vicks (Carol) She was also preceded in death by her parents, Henry Joseph Vicks and Edna Vaughan Vicks, a brother James Vicks and a sister, Louise V. Morris. Doris was a native of Halifax County and enjoyed her life here among her family and friends. She dedicated her life to her family and helping those in the community.  She was a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church where she had been extremely involved with various roles in the church. She was retired from the Halifax County School System. A funeral service will be held at Pleasant Grove Christian Church on Tuesday, November 29, 2016  at 2:30 PM with Rev. Dr. Russell Lee and Rev. Norman Talley  officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 1:00 PM until service time at 2:30 PM and at her home immediately following the service. She was very familiar  with the devastation that disease brings as she and Wesley fought his cancer diagnosis for eight years before he succumbed to the disease.
