Nellie Vest Getz

Mrs. Nellie Vest Getz of Halifax, VA passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital.  She was born in Collierstown, VA on May 16, 1936 and was 80 years old.  She was the daughter of the late William Porter Vest and Ada Long Vest and was married to the late Donald Stephen Getz.  She was a member of Ash Avenue Baptist Church, was an avid bowler, loved travel, especially the beach, and was quite fond of bingo. She was also a volunteer with the American Red Cross Bloodmobile program. She retired from Halifax Regional Hospital in 1995 after 18 years of service. Survivors include: One daughter Janet M. Sniffin and husband Dave of Cary, NC Two sisters Eva Allene Ferguson and husband Frank of Buena Vista Shirley Gilliam of Buena Vista Two sisters-in-law Joann Darlington and husband “Buddy” of Highland Springs Margaret Getz of Richmond Numerous nieces and nephews A funeral Service will be held at Ash Avenue Baptist Church on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dustin Francis conducting the service. Burial will follow at Halifax Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Tuesday night from 7-8:30 PM and other times at her home.
