Mary Laetitia Bagwell died October 1, 2016. She was born in Halifax County, Virginia on January 10, 1952 to Barbara and Don Bagwell. She is survived by her brothers and a sister, George H. Bagwell and his wife Nancy Lee, Don P. Bagwell, J r. and his wife Mary, and Blair (Cherry) Bourque and her husband Daniel. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Lucy B. Look, Laura B. Otterberg, Brandon B. Bagwell, George M. Bagwell, Dr. Elizabeth B. Anderson, Dr. Jamieson M. Bourque and Catherine B. Bourque and their spouses and children and a devoted cousin Robin You ng. Mary graduated from Halifax County High School in 1970 and received a BA degree from Hollins College in English and Art in 1974 where she was Phi Beta Kappa. She began her career in fashion advertising in Roanoke, Virginia where she won two Addy Awards as designer, art director an d copywriter of a series of magazine ads. She graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York City in 1980 and worked with several companies in product development before launching a new Company combining product development and marketing. Her clients included ABC News, Union Carbide, Coca Cola, and Lever Brothers among others. She then worked for Charron, Schwartz and Pa rtners from 1989 to 1990 as Associate Creative Director responsible for advertising for A BC news programs and a number of wine companies. For the past twenty-five years, she lived in Washington, DC using classical techniques in oil and pastel media to create expressive portraits of children, adults and dogs. Her work has been exhibited twice at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, DC. Arrangements are by Powell Funeral Home in South Boston, Virginia. A memorial service will be held at Powell Funeral Home, 1603 Wilborn Avenue, South Boston, Virginia on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at 2:0 0 p.m. Visitation with the family immediately following.
