Mrs. Hilda Anne Spears Caldwell of South Boston, VA, died October 2, 2016. She was born in Florence, SC, on April 3, 1933, to the late Boyd Fairley Spears and the late Hilda Anderson Spears. She was married to the late William Bouldin “Bill” Caldwell. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church where she was inducted into The Order of the Daughters of the King, sang in the choir, served on Alter Guild, taught Sunday School and was president of the Women of the Church. She received a business certificate from Columbia College in Columbia, SC, and worked as a secretary in South Carolina and in South Boston. She was executive director of the Halifax United Way and was administrative assistant of Boston Commons. Mrs. Caldwell was a member of the South Boston Woman’s Club, on the board of directors and secretary of the Halifax County Little Theatre and was a member of the South Boston-Halifax County Museum. She volunteered at the museum and at Good Samaritan for many years. She is survived by her daughter Catherine Collins Jenkins and husband Lee of Alexandria, VA, as well as her grandsons Graham and Evan Jenkins. She also is survived by her nephew John L. Haselden and wife Amelia and her niece Jane H. Olah and husband Lou; her nephew Jack C. Caldwell and wife Betty and her niece Elizabeth C. Duncan and husband Mark; and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Elizabeth Spears Haselden, her step-daughter Ann Caldwell Conner and her step-son David Lawrence Caldwell. The funeral service will be Saturday, October 8, 2016, at 11 a.m. in St. John’s Episcopal Church, with Father Cleon Ross officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
