Mr. Curtis Paul Davis, Sr., 87, of South Boston, Virginia went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 30, 2016. He was born in Roanoke, Alabama on April 13, 1928. He spent much of his life in Maryland, moved to Virginia upon retirement, but he always loved his home state of Alabama. Curtis worked faithfully for the Washington Star newspaper in Washington, D.C. as a printer for 20 years. He then organized and ran a print shop for the Cosmos Club from 1981 to 1993. He served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952 and was a Korean War veteran. He was a member of Dan River Baptist Church. He was previously a deacon and taught Sunday School. He enjoyed golfing and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all. Curtis was a loving family man and is survived by his devoted wife, Betty Steed Davis who he loved passionately for 62 years. He is also survived by three sons Curtis Davis, Jr. and his wife Kim of Myrtle Beach, SC, Tony Davis and his wife LuAnne of Gardendale, AL, Tim Davis and his wife Patty of Halifax, VA; one daughter Caren Connelly of West River, MD; one brother, Billy Davis and his wife Mary of Navarre, FL; one sister, Jeanette Davis of Talladega, AL. He was very proud of his 11 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Jacob H. and Florence R. Davis, a sister, Anne Cranford, brothers John Ray Davis and Curry Davis, and a loved son-in-law Richard “Bunky” Connelly. The funeral service will be held Sunday, April 3, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Dan River Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Gibson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends at church Sunday, April 3, 2016 one hour prior to the service.
