Violet Mae Helber, 87, passed away at her place of residence in Halifax County, Friday, February, 26, 2016. Born February 25, 1929 in East Cleveland, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late George and Rose (Hugli) Becker. She and George S. Helber were married in 1946 in Logan, Ohio where they resided for many years. She relocated to Halifax County in 2010. She attended Logan High School in Logan, Ohio. She was the co-owner of Helber’s Basset Kennel, worked for the Hocking County Board of Elections, and served as a volunteer at the Hocking Hills Visitor Center in Logan Ohio. She was a member of the Methodist Women’s Afghan Knitting Group and contributed to the construction of countless afghans to provide warmth to those in need. Violet was as a fun- loving wife, mother and homemaker who was dedicated to family, church and her many interests including history, gardening, reading, knitting and sewing. She was a self-taught naturalist and musician. She was well loved by her family and the many friends she made wherever she went. She was a very active member of Kline Memorial United Methodist Church in Enterprise, Ohio, and more recently Mount Tabor Baptist Church. Violet is survived by her son, George E. Helber (Janice Davison) of Houston, Texas, one daughter Bonnie M. (Michael E.) Brown of Vernon Hill, VA; one sister, Gloria Border of Zanesville, OH; 7 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Barbara J. Morton; and one grandson, Jason A. Helber. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 4, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Mount Tabor Baptist Church located at 2141 Mount Tabor Rd, Keeling, VA, 24566 with Reverend Carl Burger officiating. The family extends a special thank you to Commonwealth Assisted Living, Sentara Halifax Hospice and Pallative Care and the Mount Tabor Baptist Church community for all of their support and care.
