Mary Jane Casstevens "Cass" Booker, 86, passed away February 16, 2016 at Hospice House of the Piedmont in Greenwood, South Carolina. Born on March 4, 1929 in Greensboro, North Carolina, Cass was the daughter of the late Dr. Hollie Eugene Casstevens and Esther Allen Casstevens. She attended Mrs. Rippins School in Greensboro and graduated from high school in 1946 from St. Mary's in Raleigh, North Carolina. In 1950, she graduated from Greensboro College where she was May Queen her senior year. A year later, she married the love of her life, Archer E. D. Booker, and together they shared 61 wonderful years of marriage. Cass was a charter member of the Self Hospital Auxiliary and served more than 2,500 volunteer hours. She served two terms on the Board of Directors at the YMCA and was a member there for more than 10 years where she was a frequent and avid swimmer. Cass and Arch were long time members of the Greenwood Country Club where Cass was also a member of the Ladies Golf Association for many years. She was an active member of the Greenwood Woman's Club, the Ivey Garden Club, several bridge clubs and was a very gifted calligrapher. Since their move to Greenwood in 1961, Cass and Arch had been continuous and active members of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. She was an active member of the choir for many years and St. Anne's chapter of the Episcopal Church Women. Cass is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Archer E. D. Booker, and is survived by a son, Archer, Jr. and wife Summer of Austin, Texas; and a daughter, Hollie and husband Cary of Aiken, South Carolina. She is also survived by four grandchildren: Julie Booker of Brooklyn, New York, Archer "Trey" Booker of Austin, Texas, Cary Milliner IV of Atlanta, Georgia, Gaines Milliner of Cocoa Beach, Florida and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted at 3:00 pm Saturday at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection with the Reverend Nicolas Beasley officiating. The family will receive friends at 2:00 pm prior to the service in the church's Parish House. Burial services will take place on Monday at 11:00 am at St. John's Episcopal Church Cemetery in Halifax, Virginia.
