Mr. Leonard Grayson Throckmorton Sr. of Acorn Road, Nathalie, VA passed away on Friday, January 22, 2016 at his home. He was born in Halifax County on July 21, 1931 and was 84 years old. He was the son of the late Billy Buford Throckmorton and Anita Kate Womack Throckmorton and was married to Mildred Girdie Adkins Throckmorton. He was a retired merchant, was a member and former Deacon at Catawba Baptist Church, and was a veteran of the US Army and served his nation during the Korean Conflict. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved doing both with his family and friends. He also was a dedicated member of American Legion Post 342 at Volens. Survivors include: His wife Mildred Girdie Adkins Throckmorton of Nathalie Two daughters Venus Yvonne “Vicki” Cochran and friend Ken Cochran of South Boston Michele Grey T. Crews and husband Ted of Nathalie One son Leonard Grayson Throckmorton Jr. and wife Kim of Farmville One sister Carolyn Kaye T. Blanks and husband Wayne of Hampton Two brothers Davis O’Brian Throckmorton and wife Linda of Windsor Cecil Edward Throckmorton and wife Joanne of Halifax Three grandchildren Mary Margaret Hodges Thomas of Halifax Thomas Grey Crews of South Boston Leah Grey Long of South Boston One step grandchild Emily Rutkowski of Farmville Two great grandchildren Abigail Marie Thomas and Aidan Thomas He was also preceded in death by One sister, Frances T. Hilliard, two brothers, Billy Throckmorton and Roger Lee Throckmorton, and an infant sister. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Catawba Baptist Church with Rev. Michael O’Shea and Rev. LeRoy Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friend at the church one hour prior to the service and other times at his home.
