Esther Mae Seamons Murray, age 89, formerly of 1171 Hites Mill Road, Virgilina, VA passed away on November 25, 2015 at Sentara Woodview Nursing Home in South Boston, VA. Born in Halifax County, VA on January 1, 1926 she was a daughter of the late Andrew E. Seamons Sr. and late Gyrtle Bowen Seamons and was married to the late Herman G Murray, Sr for 49 years. She was preceded in death by a son, Dennis C. Murray and a brother, Moses Seamons. She graduated from Virgilina High School on June 4, 1946. In addition to being a homemaker, Esther worked for over 25 years in the Burling and Mending Department at the Burlington Industries Finishing Plant in Clarksville, VA. She was a life time member of Hitesburg Baptist Church where she served in various positions. She was also a past secretary of the Virgilina American Legion Auxiliary. In addition to being an avid reader and a talented seamstress she loved working in her flower garden and feeding the many birds that came to her birdfeeder for a handout. As with many of the women of her generation, Esther was a resourceful and hard working woman striving to pass on these traits to her children. Her survivors include: a son, Herman G Murray, Jr and wife, Mary Jane of Lynchburg, VA; a daughter, Judy Murray Henley and husband, Mitch of Knightdale, NC; two brothers, Cornelius Seamons and wife, Eloise of Roxboro, NC and Andrew Seamons, Jr and wife, Joanne of Powhatan, VA; a sister, Elizabeth Seamons Langford and husband, Tim of Virgilina, VA; two grandchildren, Heather Murray Cook and husband, Mike of Lynchburg, VA and Andrew Murray and wife, Deanna of Leland, NC; and one great grandchild, Lora Cook of Lynchburg, VA. Funeral services will be held at Hitesburg Baptist Church, 2215 Hitesburg Church RD, Virgilina, VA 24598 at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 28 with the Rev Mike Riley and Andrew Murray officiating. Burial will be held at the Hitesburg Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hitesburg Baptist Church 1 hour prior to the funeral service.
