Nancy Leigh McDowell Blane, born April 2, 1928 in Halifax County, Virginia, passed away on July 21, 2015 at Spring Arbor of Richmond. Mrs. Blane was a long time resident of Alton, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 42 years, Charles A. Blane; her daughter, Candice L. Blane; mother and father-in-law, Walter A. and Nena H. Blane; and brother-in-law, Edward A. Blane, all of Alton; her sons-in-law, Berkley (Jack) Elliott and Wayne Samford; her great grandson, Michael Carroll Sheriff; her parents, Mary Will and Frank McDowell; her sister, Faye Osborne and her husband, Sam; and her brother, Watt McDowell, all of Pleasant Grove, VA. She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Blane Elliott of Moseley, VA and Charlene Blane Samford of Manakin Sabot, VA; four adoring grandchildren, Matthew Elliott, Anne Blane Wootten and her husband, Brad; Jason Sheriff, and Kelda Sheriff; six great grandchildren, Maren Elliott, Caroline and Parker Wootten; Charlie, Matthew, and Holden Sheriff; one brother, Tommy and his wife, Brenda, of South Boston, VA; one sister-in-law, Katherine Blane Farmer, and her husband, David of Farmville, VA; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Blane grew up in Pleasant Grove and Portsmouth, VA. She lived most of her adult life in Alton with her late husband, Charles. She moved to South Boston later in life and then into Spring Arbor of Richmond Assisted Living. She was a nurse, homemaker, and master of arts and crafts. She was devoted to her family. Her remains rest at Powell Funeral Home in South Boston.
