Wesley Long Chappell

Wesley Long Chappell went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 7, 2015. He leaves behind his loving wife of 56 years, Doris Vicks Chappell; two adoring children, Wendy C. Daniel (Tommy); Kelly D. Chappell (Patricia) and four grandchildren who were the apple of his eye, Catherine D. Birr (Chris); T. J. Daniel; Lance Chappell; and Logan Chappell. He is also survived by a faithful brother,Lawrence Booker Chappell (Lillian) He was preceded in death by his parents, John Phillip and Florrie Long Chappell; three brothers, William Burton Chappell, John Phillip Chappell and Henry Lewis Chappell. Wesley was 79 years old and a native of Halifax County and enjoyed his entire life in the area among his family and many dear friends. He worked at Burlington Industries for 39 years, but it was during his retirement years that he truly discovered a love for the game of golf. It was at Green's Folly Golf Club where many long lasting friendships were made and much enjoyment was found. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church where he served as a deacon and many various roles within the church. Funeral services will be Friday, July 10, 2015, 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Christian Church, 2154 Pleasant Grove Road, Halifax, VA 24558. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service and other times at his home. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Dr. Russell Lee and Rev. Norman Talley.
