Mrs. Frances Lacks King of Red Level Church Road, Scottsburg, VA passed away Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Sentara Woodview. She was born in Halifax County on October 9, 1929 and was 85 years old. She was the daughter of the late Robert Lynwood Lacks and Lucy Brown Hall Lacks. She was a former employee of Clover Yarns and was a member of Red Level Church of God where she was a former treasurer and trustee. Survivors include: One daughter Deborah King Hatcher and husband Floyd Jr. of Scottsburg One sister Bertha Lacks Womack and husband Randolph of Vernon Hill One brother Robert Berkley Lacks of Richmond Two grandchildren Floyd W. Hatcher III and wife Leslie of Blairs Laura Ann Hatcher of South Boston Six great grandchildren Bradley, Alyssa, Tara, Micah, and Jackson of Blairs Anna of South Boston Number of Nieces and Nephews Dedicated Niece, Lucy Mae Berkley of Clover Devoted caregivers Dee Powell and Jennifer Powell of Scottsburg She was also preceded In death by ten sisters Lena Townsend, Rena Conner, Lottie Lacks, Bessie Lacks, Stover Lacks, Mary Lacks, Dorothy Wade, Eva Lacks, Audie Lacks, and Baby Girl Lacks The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 7-8:30 PM and other times at her home, 1134 Red Level Church Road, Scottsburg. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Red Level Church of God with Rev. Joshua Johnson and Rev. Nathan Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
