Mr. Samuel Compton of Halifax, VA passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at the Commonwealth Assisted Living of South Boston, VA. He was born October 21, 1926 and was 88 years old. He was the son of the late Elijah Jackson Compton and the late Eva Chandler Compton and was married to Hazel Osborne Compton, who survives. He was a member of the Dan River Baptist Church and a WWII, Navy veteran. Mr. Compton was retired from Dominion Virginia Power. He was member of the Dan River Ruritan Club and the American Legion Post 8. Major Samuel Jason Roark and wife Deanna of Fort Benning, GA A special nephew, Randal Craig Matze and wife Ann of Richmond, VA ***Preceded in death by*** Four brothers: Claude, Raymond, Ernest and Johnny Compton Five sisters: Edna Duke, Margie Woodall, Delma Anderson, Lola Wilburn and Glenna Payne Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at the Dan River Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Gibson officiating. Military rites will be presented at the church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Dan River Baptist Church and other times at his home, 1155 Golf Course Rd., Halifax, VA.
