Mrs. Jackie Powell Shields of Halifax, VA passed away Thursday, February 19, 2015 at her home. She was born September 5, 1935 in Halifax County, VA and was 79 years old. She was the daughter of the late Samuel Jackson Powell and the late Ethelyn Nichols Powell and was married to the late Beverly Craddock Shields, III. She was a member of the Halifax United Methodist Church, was a member of the ABWA and was retired as a Deputy Sheriff with the Halifax County Sheriff's Department. Mrs. Jackie Powell Shields is survived by: One Daughter Gaye Bomar Long (Dean) of Halifax One Son Beverly Craddock Shields, IV of Halifax Four Grandchildren Liz Meadows (Todd) of Roanoke, VA Stephanie Bomar ( Matt) of South Boston Ashley Tolsma ( Joey) of South Boston Lauren Long (Brad) of Wilmington, NC Three Great Grandchildren Piper Meadows, Laney Meadows and Maci Tolsma One Brother William Carrington Powell and Sallie Anne of South Boston Funeral Services will be held Monday, February 23, 2015 at 11:00 A. M. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Williams officiating. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall of the church. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home Sunday from 7-8:30 P.M. and other times at her home 80 Mountain Road, Halifax, VA.
