Alice Keatts Whitt

Mrs. Alice Keatts Whitt, the loving wife of James Stafford Whitt, joyfully went to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, February 1, 2015. She passed away peacefully in the family home her husband built shortly after their marriage in 1951. Mrs. Whitt was a Halifax County native and the youngest of fourteen children born to Silas Hunter Keatts and Roxanna Oakley Keatts. She had recently celebrated her 84th birthday. Mrs. Whitt was a devoted and long-time active member of Grace Baptist Church. She was creatively gifted in music, art, and sewing and was born with a green thumb. Above all, she loved being outdoors in the sunshine, whether working or relaxing, and was a natural-born "whisperer" to both animals and children. Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Vicki Whitt Stauffer and her husband Robert of Roanoke, and Lynn Whitt Schubert currently of South Boston; one sister, Minnie Keatts Powell of South Boston; four sisters-in-law; numerous nieces and nephews; and two very spoiled and beloved housecats. The Memorial Service for Mrs. Alice Whitt will be held 2 p.m. Friday, February 6, at Grace Baptist Church with the Rev. Jack Stewart officiating. It will be followed by a reception in the fellowship hall of the church. Rev. Stewart will also conduct a brief Graveside Service Friday morning at 11 a.m. at Halifax Memorial Gardens where Mrs. Whitt will be interred beside her husband. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home Thursday, February 5, from 7-8:30 p.m. and other times at the home, 2038 Alphonse Dairy Road, South Boston, VA, 24592. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mrs. Whitt's name to Halifax County Humane Society, P.O. Box 969, South Boston, VA, 24592; or Grace Baptist Church, 1074 Buckshoal Road, Virgilina, VA, 24598.
