Victoria L "Vicki" Jenkins died surrounded by loved ones in her home in Danville, VA on January 31, 2015 at the age of 56 after a two and a half year graceful battle with ALS. Vicki is survived by her parents Joe and Loretta Jenkins of South Boston, VA; brother, Joey Jenkins of South Boston, VA; special cousins Joe Whittington (Krissy) and children NyNy, Kyra, Kaleigh, Justice, and Joseph of South Boston, VA and Michelle Whittington (Teddy Blanks) and children, Ty and Kelsey of Roxboro, NC; devoted friends and caregivers Joe and Anne Foster of Danville, VA and daughters Ellen, Sarah (Tim), and Becca (Matt); and lifelong friends the Yosefinas and the JABS. Vicki was born on October 31, 1958 in South Boston, VA. She graduated from Appalachian State University in 1981 with a degree in Special Education followed by a Master's Degree in Public School Administration from The University of Virginia. After college graduation she moved to Danville, VA where she began working for Danville Public Schools as a special education teacher at George Washington High School. Throughout her 32 year career she held many leadership positions including curriculum coordinator, assistant principal, dean of students at George Washington High School, and site administrator for Galileo Magnet High School. Vicki lived her life fully to the very end filled with family and friends enjoying trips to the beach, Appalachian State ball games, Danville Braves baseball games, and shopping. She was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church of Danville, VA and was involved with various community and civic organizations including Boys and Girls Club, Kiwanis Club, Church Based Tutorial Program. She was also a graduate of the Chamber of Commerce Leadership Southside Program. A funeral is scheduled for Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at 2 pm at First Baptist Church of South Boston, VA. The family will receive friends Monday, February 2 at First Baptist Church of South Boston, VA from 7-8:30 pm and at other times at her parents' home, 2208 East Hyco Rd, South Boston, VA.
