Donald Stephen Getz

Mr. Donald Stephen Getz of Halifax, Virginia passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born December 27, 1929 in Baltimore, Maryland and was 85 years old. He was the son of the late James Getz and Ida Thompson Getz and was married to Nellie Vest Getz, who survives. He was a member of the St. Paschal Catholic Church and was a retired employee of Virginia Power. Mr. Getz was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was an avid bowler and golfer, and Redskins fan, also loved to play bingo. Mr. Donald Stephen Getz is survived by: His Wife Nellie V. Getz of Halifax One Daughter Janet Sniffin and husband Dave of Cary, NC One Sister JoAnn Darlington and husband Buddy of Highland Springs, VA One Sister-In-Law Margaret Getz of Mechanicsville, VA Numerous nieces and nephews ***Preceded in death by Two brothers, James and Martin Getz One sister, Frances Gonsalves A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, January 31, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Paschal Catholic Church with Father Gerald Kaggwwa and the Rev. Bill LaWall officiating. Burial will follow in Halifax Memorial Gardens with military rites. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home, Friday from 7-8:30 P.M. and other times at his home, 2200 Love Shop Rd., Halifax, VA.
