Lissie Mae Newby Lewis

Mrs. Lissie Mae Newby Lewis of Halifax, VA passed away Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the Woodview Nursing Home. She was born July 18, 1936 in Halifax County, VA and was 78 years old. She was the daughter of the late Floyd Lee Newby, Sr. and the late Ida Dalton Newby and was married to the late Emmett Clifton Lewis, Sr. She was a member of the Arbor Baptist Church and participated in the Helping Hands Program. She drove a school bus for Halifax County Public schools for over 45 years. Mrs. Lewis had a special love of handcrafts, gardening, bird feeders, dolls and angels. Mrs. Lissie Mae Newby Lewis is survived by: Two Sons E.C. Lewis, Jr. and wife Annette of South Boston Dane Paige Lewis and wife Janet of Powhatan, VA Six Grandchildren Eight Great Grandchildren A number of nieces, nephews, friends and family Preceded in death by: Two brothers, Clifton Bennie Newby and Floyd Lee Newby, Jr. Two sisters, Pauline Newby Jefferson and Thelma Newby Lewis One grandson, Cody Lee Lewis Two great grandsons, Kaedyn and Kristopher Rosier Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. at the Arbor Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Davis officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, January 5, 2015 from 7:00 until 8:30 P.M. at Powell Funeral Home and other times at the home of E.C. Lewis, Jr. and wife Annette, 1084 Newton Farm Rd., South Boston, VA.
