Mary Layne Ballard McRae

Mary Layne Ballard McRae, age 80, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2014 in Springfield, Virginia. Mary Layne was born December 24, 1934 in High Point, North Carolina, to the late Theodore R. and Mary S. Ballard. In addition to High Point, she lived in Richmond, Virginia before settling in Springfield, Virginia in 1972. She graduated Greensboro College in 1957. Survivors include her loving husband of 57 years, Cameron S. McRae, her daughters Megan and husband Michael McNair Springfield, and Paige Powers of Alexandria and three grandsons Austin McNair and wife Lillian of Arlington, Cameron McNair of Springfield and Brenden Powers of Alexandria. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, January 17, at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel, 1603 Wilborn Avenue, South Boston, Virginia with Rev. Ed Rigg officiating. Burial will be held in private. Relatives and friends are welcome at the service and the following reception at Ernie's Restaurant. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in Layne's memory to the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, D.C. 20090-6011.
