George Allen Lawter, Sr.

Mr. George Allen Lawter, Sr. of South Boston, VA passed away Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at his home. He was born May 11, 1923 in Halifax County and was 91 years old. He was the son of the late Oscar Ray Lawter and the late Lena Newby Lawter and married to Mary Evelyn Talley Lawter, who survives. He was a retired supervisor with Craddock and Terry Shoe Corp .and a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII. In retirement Mr. Lawter enjoyed upholstering furniture. Mr. George Allen Lawter is survived by: His Wife Mary Evelyn Talley Lawter Four Daughters Joan Lawter and husband Rusty Curle Janet Lawter Lantz and husband Richard Jean Lawter Hatch and husband Jon Jackie Lawter Armistead and husband Sonny One Son Allen Lawter and wife Donna Eleven Grandchildren Jamie Hudson and wife Heather, Jessica Hatch and fiance Luke, Jenny Clark and husband Jordan, Joanna Marchetti and husband Anthony, Ashley Gibbs and husband Whitt, Justin Armistead and wife Jess, Mallory Lawter, Dani Lawter, Jack Hatch, Lyndsay Lawter and Mackenzie Lawter Six Great Grandchildren Haley Lantz-Riggs, Audrey Hudson, Olivia Hudson, Cooper Clark, Finley Armistead and Brentley Gibbs, Lawter Marchetti Preceded in death by, three brothers and one sister Funeral services will be held Friday, December 26, 2014 at 3:00 P.M. at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Norman Talley officiating. Burial will follow in the Halifax Memorial Gardens with Military honors.
