Alice Young East

Mrs. Alice Young East, formerly of Stagecoach Road, Nathalie, VA passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2014 at Autumn Care of Altavista. She was born in Hancock County, TX September 13, 1917 and was 97 years old. She was the daughter of the late Raymond Adrian Young and Annice Medville Day Young and was married to the late Robert Thornton East. She was a member of Clover Bottom Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the church choir. She was a retired school teacher with the Halifax County School System having taught at Volens and Meadeville Elementary Schools. She also previously taught in Texas, New York, and Washington, DC. Survivors include: Three daughters Paula E. Sullivan and husband Jim of Halifax Bobbie E. Glidewell and husband Jim of Altavista Sheila E. Chunn and husband Bob of Valrico, FL One brother Pete Young and wife Pat of Texarkana, TX Six grandchildren Seven great grandchildren She was preceded in death by two sisters, Tootie Young & Frankie Davis and five brothers, Raymond Young, William Young, Arthur Young, Ben Young, and John Young. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Clover Bottom Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Lively officiating. Burial will follow in the church Cemetery. A viewing will be held in the church, Saturday for one hour prior to the service.
