Gene Douglas Puryear

Mr. Gene Douglas Puryear of Virgilina, VA died Monday, December 1, 2014 at Boston Commons. He was born February 8, 1942 in Halifax County, VA and was 72 years old. He was the son of the late James "Scalie" Franklin Puryear, Jr. and the late Pauline Whitt Puryear and was married to the late Dorothy Eleanor Keatts Puryear. He was a member of the Shepherd's Chapel and a U.S. Air Force Vietnam veteran. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 8. Mr. Gene Douglas Puryear is survived by: One Daughter Linda "Susie" Puryear McCuskey and husband Dan of Idaho Two Step-sons Randy Michael Bagby and wife Kimberly of South Dakota Rodney "Buddy" Bagby and special friend Donna Stolz of Hayes, VA Preceded in death by: One Son, Gene Peyton Puryear Memorial services will be held Friday, December 5, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Randy Holmes officiating. Private burial will follow at the Virgilina Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Powell Funeral Home.
