Joanne Miller Russell

Mrs. Joanne Miller Russell of Alton, VA passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Halifax Regional Hospital. She was born in Union Mississippi on October 17, 1937 and was 77 years old. She was the daughter of the late Walter Guy Miller and Jewel Jones Harmon and was married to the late Charles Linville Russell Sr. She was a member of First Crossroads Baptist Church and was retired from the US Government Census Department. Survivors include: One daughter Helen R. Martin of Westmont, IL One son Charles L. Russell Jr. and wife Lisa of Benson, NC One sister Alice H. Lengthorn of PA One brother Donald Harmon of Lawrence, Mississippi Eight grandchildren Matthew Russell (Sandra), Sherri Hatcher (Calvin), Anthony Russell, Jodie Russell, Gabrielle Martin, Stephen Martin (Amanda), Joanna Martin, and Michelle Martin Eight great grandchildren Special friend, Mary French She was preceded in death by one daughter, Nora Lynn Russell and by two brothers, Kenneth J. Harmon Jr. an d John M. Harmon III. A funeral service will be held at First Crossroads Baptist Church on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dan Ward officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Friday evening from 6-7:30 PM and other times at her home. Those wishing to give memorials should consider the Turbeville Volunteer Fire Department or First Crossroads Baptist Church.
