Mrs. Mildred Perkins King of Halifax passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at The Woodview. She was born in Halifax County on February 21, 1927 and was 87 years old. She was the daughter of the late Samuel Bateman Perkins and Minnie Lou Dunaway Perkins and was married to the late Oliver Melvin King. She was a member of the Ellis Creek Baptist Church where she was a choir member, Sunday School Teacher, member of the WMU, and was church photographer. Survivors include: One daughter Brenda K. Crews and husband Bobby of Halifax Donnie King and wife Mary Ann of Halifax Three grandchildren Christy K. Snead and husband TJ of Halifax Mary Kaye Robbins and husband Chris of Halifax Amy C. Davis and husband Josh of Halifax Five great grandchildren Katelynn Snead, Savannah Snead, Jacob Snead, Madison Robbins, and Jase Robbins She was preceded in death by four brothers, John Perkins, Booker Perkins, Sammy Perkins, and Jimmy Perkins A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at 3:00 PM at Ellis Creek Baptist Church with Rev. W.D. "Dib" Mills and Rev. Aubrey Heath officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Saturday evening from 7-8:30 PM and other times at her home, 2150 Winns Creek Road, Halifax.
