Garland Newberry Childrey

Mr. Garland Newberry Childrey of Halifax, Virginia, died Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born in Halifax County, Virginia to the late, Hassie Newberry Childrey and Fannie Maude Powell Childrey, June 12, 1934 and was 80 years of age. He is survived by his wife Mary Jean Woody Childrey. Mr. Childrey was a member of Dan River Baptist Church, Charter member of Dan River Community Ruritan Club, U. S. Army Veteran and U. S. Marine Reservist. He was owner-operator of Garland's Jewelry in Halifax for 53 years. Mr. Garland Newberry Childrey is survived by: His Wife: Mary Jean Woody Childrey of Halifax, Va One Daughter: Cynthia Ann Childrey of Flagstaff, AZ Funeral Services for Mr. Garland Newberry Childrey will be held at Dan River Baptist Church, Sunday, September 28, 2014 at 3:00 P.M. with the Rev. Doug Gibson and the Rev. Larry Frakes officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.
