Chester Alan Arthur

Mr. Chester Alan Arthur of South Boston, Virginia died Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at Meadowview Terrace in Clarksville, Virginia. He was born in Rescue, Virginia September 4, 1936 and was 78 years of age. He was the son of the late Frank Marion Arthur and Pattie Hupp Arthur and was also preceded in death by his wife Loraine Shipp Arthur. Mr. Arthur was retired from the United States Coast Guard as a Chief Petty Officer after 20 years of continuous active duty. He earned the Coast Guard Good Conduct Medal with Three Bronze Stars, The National Defense Service Medal and the Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon. Moore & husband Jason of South Boston, VA Four Great-Grandchildren Cody D. Arthur, Kaylie E. Arthur, Olivia L. Moore & Jacob E. Moore, all of South Boston, VA One Sister, Frances A. Martin of Smithfield, VA One Brother, Thomas C Arthur & wife Betty of South Boston, VA Sister-In-Law, Nancy B. Arthur of Lawrenceville, VA A Number of Nieces and Nephews ***Preceded in death by*** His parent, wife, his step-mother, Ruth T. Arthur, a brother A. R. "Buddy" Arthur a sister Mattie A. Johnson and a great-granddaughter, Sarah M. Arthur The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home, Friday, from 1-2:30 P.M. followed by a Graveside Service at Halifax Memorial Gardens at 3:00 P.M with Rev. Kevin Eley officiating and Military Rites by American Legion Post 8 Honor Guard. Those wishing to give memorials are asked to consider a charity of your choice.
