Rex Hundley Crews Sr.

Mr. Rex Hundley Crews Sr. of Woodbourne Road, Halifax died Friday, June 13, 2014 at his home. He was born in Halifax County, VA on March 13, 1954 and was 60 years old. He was the son of the late Hampton Lee Crews and Janie Carden Crews and was married to Diane Jones Crews who survives. He was a retired Senior Loan Officer from Farm Credit of Virginia. He was a lifelong member of Crystal Hill Southern Baptist Church where he was a Deacon Chairman, Sunday School Teacher, and served on many other committees. He was a 1976 graduate of Virginia Tech and was a proud alumnus. He was a member of the Liberty Volunteer Fire Department where he served as president. He was very active in youth sports in Halifax County. He was an assistant coach for the Halifax County Senior High School Comet football team and he also coached in the Halifax County Dixie Girls softball program. He was a former treasurer for the Halifax County Recreation Department and was active with the Halifax County Soil and Water Conservation Board. Survivors include: His wife Diane Jones Crews of Halifax Three daughters Rhiannon Terry McPherson and husband David of Charleston, SC Sarah Elizabeth Crews of Victoria, VA Jamie Lee Carden Crews of Halifax One son Rex Hundley Crews Jr. of Charleston, SC Five brothers HL Crews and wife Betty of Crystal Hill Kim Crews of Crystal Hill Bill Crews of Crystal Hill James Jones of Crystal Hill Wally Jones and wife May of Crystal Hill One half- sister Dixie Barnett and husband Jack of Halifax One half- brother Harold Jones of Richmond Many nieces, nephews, and cousins He was predeceased by an infant son and by a half- brother, John Reese A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Crystal Hill Southern Baptist Church with Rev. Charlie Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with fireman's rites. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Monday evening from 7-8:30 PM and other times at his home.
