Mr. James Meredith Callahan of South Boston, Virginia died Tuesday, May 06, 2014 at the Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born in Mecklenburg County, Virginia on March 1, 1925 and was 89 years old. He was the son of the late William Callahan and Nora Piercy Callahan and was married to the late Melcoie Hite Callahan. Mr. Callahan was World War II veteran serving in the Army Field Artillery in the European Theater. He had a lengthy career with Estes Express Lines from it's inception and was retired as Terminal Manager. He was a very active and charter member of Hyco Ruritan Club. Mr. James Meredith Callahan is survived by: One Daughter Carol C. McDaniel One Brother, Daniel Callahan Funeral Services for Mr. James Meredith Callahan will be held at Powell Funeral Home Chapel, Thursday, May 8. 2014 at 2:00 P. M. with the Rev. Don Bryant officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home for one hour prior to the service and other times at his home.
