Mrs. Dorothy Anderson Clements of 3049 L.P. Bailey Memorial Highway, Halifax, VA, passed on Monday, March 24, 2014 at 7:10 A.M. Born in Halifax County on April 9, 1920, she was 93 at the time of her death. The daughter of Mrs. Neva Covington Anderson and Mr. John Meads Anderson, she was married to the late Theo Braxton Clements. Mrs. Clements was a member of McKendree United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school, was Treasurer of the Church and directed the adult choir for over 20 years. She was a certified Lay Speaker for the Methodist Church and spoke in many churches in the county. Mrs. Clements was employed by the Clerk's office of the Circuit Court of Halifax County and worked there for 17 years. She also worked as Administrative Assistant to former County Administrator, Walter Brady, for three years before retiring. Mrs. Clements was a past president of Halifax Woman's Club and was Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee for a number of years. She helped raise money for the Halifax War Memorial Park and the reservation of the Halifax Masonic Lodge, no. 97. She was also a past president of the Banister River Garden Club. She is survived by son, Dabney Wayne Clements and wife Kitty Moore Clements of South Boston, VA, daughter, Dorothy Clements Werkmeister and husband Paul Werkmeister of Richmond, VA, four grandchildren, Debra Clements Coates and husband David Coates of Greensburg, PA, Rhonda Clements Overstreet of Gladys, VA, Leigh Ann Withrow and husband Dr. Ryan Withrow of Vicenza, Italy, Stephen Werkmeister and wife Heather Werkmeister of Midlothian, VA. Deceased siblings include sister, Louise Younger Martin, brothers, John L. Anderson, Louis C. (Buzz) Anderson, and William Meads Anderson. Funeral services for Mrs. Clements will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 27 at McKendree United Methodist Church. Visitation will be at the church prior to the service at 1PM. The Reverends Pat Nielson and John Briggs will be officiating with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
