Mr. Henry Lee "Dickie" Smith of Scottsburg, Virginia died Sunday March 2, 2014 at his home. He was born July 21, 1942 in Norfolk, Virginia and was 71 years old. He was the son of the late Thomas Edward Smith and the late Martha Martin Smith. Dickie was married to Wanda Stevens Smith on March 24, 1968 and survives him. Dickie accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized in a private ceremony on July 30, 2005. Dickie retired from J.P. Stevens after 38 years of service. Dickie loved camping and fishing and working in the yard. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and had a favorite nickname, Punkin (Whitney), Jughead (Justin), Prissy Poo (Lauren) for each one of them. He loved to serve as the chef during family outings and was renowned for his fried chicken and beef stew. Womack and husband Lee of South Boston Three Grandchildren Whitney, Justin and Lauren Womack of South Boston Eight Sisters Bertha Terry of Halifax Edith Allen and husband Sonny of Mechanicsville, VA Martha Thompson and husband Joe of Rocky Mount, NC Doris Butler of South Boston Betty Sneed of Halifax Deborah Rudder of South Boston Virginia Roberts and husband Roy of Cluster Springs Nancy McVicker of Apopka, FL One Brother Kenneth Charles "Pete" Smith of Halifax A number of nieces and nephews ***Preceded in death by*** One brother, Melvin Thomas Smith Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Pastor Darry Campbell, the Rev. Alfred Chandler and the Pastor Daniel Royo officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakland Cemetry, Scottsburg, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Powell Funeral Home and other times from 12:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at his home, 8175 James D.
