Gerald Slayton Scearce

Mr. Gerald Slayton Scearce of 4060 LP Bailey Memorial Hwy., Halifax, VA passed away Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC. He was born in Pittsylvania County on December 5, 1940 and was 73 years old. He was the son of the late John Henry Scearce and Beulah Simpson Scearce and was married to Josephine Moore Scearce who survives. He was a retired loom fixer from JP Stevens, was a farmer, and worked alongside of his son with Trees-N-More. He was a member of Halifax Methodist Church and WOW Lodge 106. Survivors include: His wife Josephine Moore Scearce of Halifax One son Gerald Edward Scearce of Halifax Two grandsons Adam B. Scearce of Halifax Daniel B. Scearce of Halifax One sister Ruth S. Settle of Danville One brother Alvin D. Scearce of North Carolina Special Friend Martha Buchanan A Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Halifax United Methodist Church with the Rev. Randy Williams officiating. Burial will follow at the Moore Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Monday evening from 7-8:30 PM and other times at his home.
