Mr. John Raleigh Wilkerson of Scottsburg, Virginia died Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Woodview Nursing Home. He was born January 22, 1920 in Halifax County, Virginia and was 94 years old. He was the son of the late William Hannibal Wilkerson and the late Ellie Price Wilkerson and married to Christine Wilmouth Wilkerson, who survives. He was a member of the Clover United Methodist Church and a WWII Army veteran. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 8. Mr. Wilkerson was a self-employed farmer and carpenter. Cassell and husband Stan of Hampton, VA Five Grandchildren Heather Blanks and husband Travis of Alton, VA Justin Wilkerson of South Boston Amanda Nichols of Hampton, VA Brian Seigla and wife Sara of Richmond, VA Andrew Cassell and wife Kasie of Castle Rock, CO Five Great Grandchildren Hailey and Taylor Blanks Wyatt Seigla Chase and Olivia Cassell One special sister-in-law, Mary Wilkerson A number of special nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by: Four sisters, Allie Fallen, Rosa Wilson, Vinnie Smith, Evvie Saunders Four brothers, Troy , Fred, Herbert and Ira Wilkerson Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at the Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mary Tharpe officiating. Burial will follow in the Halifax Memorial Gardens with military rites.
