Charles Thomas Harris

Mr. Charles Thomas Harris of South Boston, Virginia died Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the Halifax Regional Hospital. He was born January 16, 1933 in Halifax County, Virginia and was 81 years old. He was the son of the late Samuel Hodnett Harris and the late Alice Wilborn Harris and was married to Gloria Anne Martin Harris, who survives. He was a faithful member of the Berry Hill Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon, Elder and Trustee. He retired from the Universal Leaf Tobacco Company after 40 years of service. He was a US Army veteran serving with the 82nd Airborne and a member of the American Legion Post 8. He was also a 51 year member of the T.P.A.. Charles was a devoted sports fan and rarely missed a family member's sporting event. Mr. Charles Thomas Harris is survived by: His Wife Gloria Anne Martin Harris of South Boston One Daughter Donna Harris Elliott and husband L.F. of South Boston Two Sons Edward Dale Harris and wife Betsey of Halifax Charles Thomas "Tom" Harris, Jr. and wife Sandy of Halifax Seven Grandchildren Anne Frazier Elliott, Meredith Elliott, Will Harris, Ben Harris, Taylor Harris, Tucker Harris and Conner Harris. One Sister Margaret Harris Harbin and husband Charles of York, SC Two Brothers James Conway Harris and wife Myra Jane of Halifax Marshall Harris and wife Teresa of South Boston Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 19, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at the Berry Hill Presbyterian Church with the Rev., Dr. Roger Wilborn and the Rev., Dr. Ed Melvin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends Saturday, January 18, 2014 from 7:00 until 8:30 P.M. at Powell Funeral Home and other times at his home, 1310 Berry Hill Rd., South Boston, VA.
