Mrs. Rosalie Weatherford LeFontaine of South Boston died January 10, 2014 at Berry Hill Health and Rehab. She was born in Halifax County, VA on August 27, 1936 and was 77 years old. She was the daughter of the late Robert Irvin Weatherford and Margaret Duncan Weatherford and was married to the late Joseph Raymond LeFontaine. She was a member of First Baptist Church and was a retired nursing instructor at Southside Virginia Community College. She received her BS in nursing from Duke University, her MS from the University of California, and a MS from Carver School of Missions. Over her career, she nursed at Duke University Hospital, South Boston Hospital, Fuller-Roberts Clinic, and Baptist Hospital in New Orleans. With her mission work, she worked with Project Hope in Nicaragua and as a Baptist Missionary to Paraguay, she set up the School of Nursing at the University of Paraguay. She taught nursing at the University of Hawaii, J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, Southern Virginia Higher Education Center, and started the Nursing Program at Southside VA Community College and taught nursing there. Survivors include: One sister Jo W. Wimbish and husband Carlyle of South Boston Two nephews Carlyle R. "Randy" Wimbish and wife Gill of Richmond Robert E. Wimbish and wife Angela of Knoxville, TN A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dave Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Powell Funeral Home on Monday evening from 7-8:00 PM and other times at the home of Carlyle and Jo Wimbish, 4216 Bill Tuck Highway, South Boston, VA 24592.
