George Byron Crump, born May 5, 1950, age 63, passed away, December 17, 2013, at his home after a courageous battle with ampullary cancer. He is survived by his wife Sarah Powell Crump of 13 years, son Bryant Crump, daughter Sandy (Ryan) Turnage of Williamsburg, VA three grandchildren Danielle Crump of South Boston, Mason Crump of South Boston, Jackson Turnage of Williamsburg as well as stepdaughter Sheryl (Wayne) Crews of Scottsburg and stepson Tony Martin of Scottsburg, two step-grandchildren Crystal Crews and John Glasscock both of Scottsburg, and one great-step-grandchild Wyatt Crews. George is also survived by his sisters Mary (John) Govoni of Chase City, VA, Brenda Younger of Nathalie, VA, Linda (Donnie) Griles of Chase City and Bitsy Taylor of Chase City. as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thurman Shelton Crump and Bessie Eunice Chumney Crump. George had a long career as a tire builder at Goodyear Tire & Rubber in Danville, VA. He took pride in hard work and was always there to help friends, family, and his church with whatever they needed. George was a member at Bethel Baptist Church, where he served in many capacities. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and riding his motorcycle. A special thank you to the Home Health and Hospice of Halifax and George's many friends and support. Visitation will be from 7:00- 8:30 P.M. at Powell Funeral Home on Thursday, December, 19, 2013. Funeral services for George will be at Bethel Baptist Church in Scottsburg on Friday, December 20, 2013 at 2:00 P. M..
