Mr. Decatur Milton Overbey of Virgilina, Virginia died Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at his home. He was born in Mecklenburg County, Virginia on June 2, 1925 and was 88 years old. He was the son of the late Walter Overbey and the late Sally Puryear Overbey and married to the late Elizabeth Newton Overbey. He was member of the Hitesburg Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Clerk, Treasurer, R.A. Leader and Sunday School Teacher. He also served as the Sunday School Superintendent, Trustee and Choir member. Mr. Overbey was WWII Army veteran. Mr. Decatur Overbey is survived by: One Son Donald D. Overbey and wife Yvonne of Ringgold, VA Two Grandchildren Beth Ralston of Virgilina, VA Joe Councill of Hagerstown, MD Special caregivers, Virginia Miller and Brenda Ballou One Brother Robert Overby of Nelson, VA Three Sisters Margie Nelson of Nelson, VA Faye McGaughey of Greenville, SC Holly Crenshaw of Victoria, VA *** Preceded in death by: One daughter, Wanda O. Carter Four brothers, Walter Overbey, Lacy Overbey, Marion Overbey and Charlie Overbey One sister, Florine Moorefield Special thanks to the Doctors and staff of the Halifax Regional Hospital and the Halifax Regional Hospice. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at the Hitesburg Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Riley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites The family will receive friends Friday, November 15, 2013 from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. at Powell Funeral Home and other times at his home, 2244 Aarons Creek Road, Virgilina, Virginia.
