William Harmon "Billy" Dixon

Mr. William Harmon "Billy" Dixon of Auburndale, Florida, and formerly of Alton, VA passed away at his home on October 18, 2013. He was born in Pamplin, VA on May 15, 1927 and was 86 years old. He was the adopted son of Fanny and Albert Dixon of Alton who have predeceased him. He was married first to Edna Gravitt Dixon who predeceased him in 1973 and then to Doris M. Haase Dixon who survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Sandra D. Stip and her husband Rob, grandson, 1st Lt. Jason Martin and wife Grisel, granddaughter Toni Lauters and husband Robert, and grandson Scott Stip and wife Melissa. He is also survived by a sister, Frances Leete of Charlotte, NC and great grandchildren Zoe and Joseph Lauters, Cameron and Alexia Stip and Colin Martin. He will be greatly missed by numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. Besides his parents and first wife, he was also preceded in death by sisters Ester, Cumile, Helen, and Louise, brothers Buell, Denny, and Earl, and his brothers-in-law John R. Haase and Edward L. Haase. He loved to make people laugh, was an avid bowler, enjoyed music, and as a youngster was involved in the music ministry at Black Walnut Baptist Church and Shady Grove United Methodist Church. He was in the insurance business for most of his adult life and was awarded Top Agent of the Month several times and also earned the Agent of the Year Award. He supported several ministries such as the Haitian Ministry and the New Life Baptist Church. He served his country as an US Army Ordinance Officer during WWII. A funeral service will be held at Shady Grove United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Mike McDowell conducting the service.
