George Wallace Cole

Mr. George Wallace Cole, age 83, of 1040 Wallace Cole Road, South Boston, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013 at his home. He was the son of the late George Lewis Cole and Ida Hudson Cole and was married to the late Doris Royster Cole. He is survived by one daughter, Cindi Smith and husband Bill of Nathalie, one son Tucker Cole and wife Becky of Lynchburg, two grand-daughters, Katie Smith and friend, Kip Pottage of Nathalie, Jill Smith and fiance, Kenny Wynn of Gladys, sister, Patsy C. Hughes and husband, Glenn of Birmingham, Alabama, sister-in-law, Faye R. Weatherford and husband Skip of Phenix and a devoted and special friend and companion, Doris S. Cole. He was preceded in death by a sister Maxine Talley. Mr. Cole was retired from Boston Lumber Company, where he worked for fifty plus years, a member of the Korean War conflict stationed in Anchorage, Alaska, a charter member of Hyco Road Ruritan Club and a member of American Legion, Post of South Boston. He was also a retired tobacco farmer and former owner of Cole's Store on East Hyco Road. Graveside services with military rites will be held Saturday, October 26, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Powell Funeral Home on Friday, Oct. 25, 2013 from 7-8:30 P. M. and at other times , the family will receive friends at the home, 1040 Wallace Cole Road, South Boston,VA In lieu of flowers please make contributions to a charity of your choice.
