Elna Short Burton

She was born in Pittsylvania County, Virginia October 28, 1926 and was 86 years of age. She was the daughter of the late Lundy Short and Lena Fuller Short and was also preceded in death by her husband Samuel Harrell Burton, Sr. Mrs. Burton was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Mrs. Elna Short Burton is survived by: Two daughters Sandra Comer and husband Randolph of South Boston Tracey Johns and husband Rick of Halifax One Son Samuel H. Burton, Jr. & wife Joyce Of Halifax Three Sisters Frances Glass of South Boston Elaine Hamlette & husband Bobby of Charlotte Court House Joan Waller & husband Woody of Halifax Six Grandchildren Twelve Great Grandchildren Five Great-Great Grandchildren She was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Barksdale and Lettie Conner and four brothers, Al David Short, James Short, C. W. Short and Robert Lee Short. Funeral Services for Mrs. Elna Short Burton will be held at Powell Funeral Home Chapel Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Greg Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Winns Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home on Thursday from 1:00 PM until service time at 2:00 PM and other times at the home, 1082 Conner-Evans Trail, Alton.
