Gertrude Rebecca Powell Lawson

Mrs. Gertrude Rebecca Powell Lawson of South Hill, Va and formerly of the Scottsburg community passed away Sunday, August 18, 2013 at her home. She was born in Halifax County on December 14, 1922 and was 90 years old. She was the daughter of the late Woodson Harper Powell and Lydia Frances Wallen Powell and was married to the late Roy George Lawson. She was a member of the Scottsburg Baptist Church. Survivors include: Two sisters Parlee Powell McGee of South Hill Helen Powell Harris Andrews and husband Joseph B. Andrews of South Hill One niece Darlene H. Coffey of Burlington, NC One great niece Kristen H. Sadler and husband Curt of LaCrosse One great nephew Jeffrey Harris of Lacrosse She was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Perkins, and by two brothers, Earl Stephen Powell and Woodrow Wilson Powell, one nephew, Danny F. Harris and by one nephew-in-law, Gene Coffey . A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Fork Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Smutz officiating. Visitation wiil be held at Powell Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 7-8:30 PM and other times at her home in South Hill.
