Meredith G. Dixon, 89, of Danville, VA, died August 11. He was born in Halifax County on Dec. 2, 1923 to Bernard Garland Dixon and Thelma Blair Compton Dixon. Meredith graduated from Wilson Memorial High School, South Boston, in 1941 where he played baseball and basketball. He served in the US Army during WWII as a member of the 3014th Ordinance Base Automotive Maintenance Company in England and France. He spent his entire career with Virginia Power (now Dominion Resources) in Richmond, retiring in 1988. He was a Certified Master Gardner, an avid Boston Red Sox fan, an active member of Bon Air Baptist Church, Richmond and most recently, First Baptist Church, Danville. Preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Virginia "Jinks" Wilmouth Dixon, brother, Dr. Cecil B. Dixon, and sisters Ruby Brumfield and Ann Andrews. Survived by wife, Kathleen Chandler Dixon of Danville, son Gary Dixon (Sheri), grandchildren Shay Dixon Paulson and Troy Dixon, all of Dallas, TX. The family would like to extend special thanks toTammy Vernon for her loving care of Meredith over the last several years. Dearly loved by all who knew him, "Pops" ran his race with endurance for the joy set before him and is now in His presence. Services will be held at Dan River Baptist Church, South Boston, on Tuesday, August 13 at 11am. The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home, South Boston, VA, on Monday, August 12 from 6:30-8:00pm.
